Proposed amendments in Pharm.D Regulations 2008

         It has been noted by the PCI that –

a) as per the statutory provision of Pharm.D. Regulations, 2008, there is a requirement of 300 bedded hospitals.

b) some North Eastern States and hilly regions of India, hospitals with 300 bed strength are not available.  As a result these areas are not able to have Pharm.D course.  The matter was considered by the Executive Committee of the Council in its meeting held in Feb, 2017 which decided to approve the following draft amendment in Regulation 2) of “Appendix-B” of the Pharm.D. Regulations, 2008.

DPA-Maharashtra team has met various Cabinet Ministers during the winter assembly sessions regarding issues of Pharm.Ds

-Dr. Ranjit Patil, Minister of state Home (Urban), Urban Development, General Administration, Law and Judiciary and Parliamentary Affairs.
- Shri. Rajkumar S Badole, Hon'ble Minister of State Social Justice & Special Assistance
- Vinod Tawde Hon'ble Education Minister of Maharashtra
-Madan Yerawar Minister of state Energy, Tourism, Food and Drug, Administration and Public Works General Administration
- Dhananjay Munde Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council
- Narayan Rane Member (elect) of Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ex. chief minister.

Andolan for scholarship of Pharm.D Students

05/01/2017, Samaj Kalyan Office, Amravati, Maharashtra: Due to the unavailability of the rightful scholarship(EBC/OBC/PTC) facility to the doctor of pharmacy students of govt. college of pharmacy a bold front has been taken up by the DPA(Doctor Of Pharmacy Association), including the Doctor Of Pharmacy students. Earlier various efforts to solve this issue had been undertaken by Mr. Vinayak Ghayal, State President, DPA and along with Mr. Dhanraj Shinde and other members of association but no favourable response was received until now and hence this decision was taken.

An Andolan in the Samaj Kalyan office will be held as a fight for their rights so that justice will be done. Beginning from 10:30 am today, it will continue up till a favourable response and action has been taken by the social justice department.

Telangana Pharmacy Council re-registration procedure

Telangana State Pharmacy Registration Tribunal has been constituted recently to coordinate the formation of "Telangana Pharmacy Council".  Pharmacists who wish to continue their work in Telangana are directed to re-register with the newly established Telangana State Pharmacy Registration Tribunal (TSPRT) on or before April 30.  Those who fail to do so by April 30 may have to face a lengthy process if they want to register later.

The Re-registration process can be done by submitting the following documents:-

•      A self-attested application form
•       Photocopy of APCC registration certificate
•       Photocopy of passbook
•       Photocopy of any address proof
•       A minimal fee of Rs.10/-

Establishment, Development and popularization of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm d) Programme in India

Abstract:

With the remarkable growth of hospitals,new challenges were raised which necessitated more planing and co-ordination among the healthcare professionals. There arised the concept of clinical pharmacy which in-turn lead to the birth of pharm d programme. Initially the programme was introduced in university of California in the year 1955.within a short while it attained wide acceptance and popularity. The pharmacy education in India is not much old. Though Madras medical college started pharmacy educational in 1860,it began as a university programme only in 1932 at BHU(Banarus Hindu University). In 1999 a remarkable attempt was made to start pharm d in India by Dr. Revikumar K.G  in Trivandrum medical college, kerala. But unfortunetly it failed. India and other countries came to think seriously about pharm d when Foreign Pharmacy Graduation Equivalency Committee(FPGEC) in US made it mandatory that a 5 year pharmacy graduation programme to be eligible to appear for Foreign Pharmacy Graduation Equivalency examination(FPGEE).All these prompted the authorities to introduce 6 year regular and 3 year post baccalaureate Pharm d in the country during the year 2008.

2nd National Level Essay Competition on the Occasion of World Pharmacists Day

On the occasion of World Pharmacists Day, Doctor of Pharmacy Association is organising a National Level Essay Competition 2015.

SUBMISSION:

1) Essays should be typed in a Word Document file (.doc) and can be sent in doc or pdf

Format. Formatting should use 12pt Times New Roman, 1.5 paragraph spacing.

2) The length of the essay must not be longer than 1000 words.

3) Essays must be sent as email attachments to dpapharm@gmail.com. The subject/title of the e-mail should be ‘World Pharmacists Day Essay Competition 2015’.

Pharm.D college managements were directed to immediately implement the said governement direction under initimation to Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE).

 

 

Pharm.D interns to get 5K stipend per month, resolves government and court

                               

The government of Telangana and High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the State of Telangana and the State of Andhra Pradesh took a final decision regarding stipend for Pharm.D students during internship period.

The letter bearing No.4665/TE/A2/2014-1, dated 27-06-2015, wherein the State Government issued a clarification in the issue. Paragraph No.5 of the said letter reads as under:

“To resolve this issue, Government have conducted a meeting with the officials concerned along with the representative of a Pharm.D College on 22-06-2015 and after careful examination of the entire matter and keeping in view the suggestions of Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi, have decided that the Pharmacy Colleges must give stipend of Rs.5,000/- per month to the students during the period of Internship i.e., 6th year of Pharm D.Course to the batch of students who were admitted during 2008-09 in this Course and who have undergone the Internship programme (sixth year) as prescribed in the curriculum in the academic year 2013-14, out of the Tuition Fee of Rs.86,000/- collected by them.”

As evident from the said letter a decision was taken by the Government that the Pharmacy Colleges must give stipend of Rs.5,000/- per month to the students during the period of Internship i.e., 6th year of Pharm D.Course to the batch of students who were admitted during 2008-09 in this Course and who did undergo the Internship programme (sixth year) as prescribed in the curriculum in the academic year 2013-14, out of the Tuition Fee of Rs.86,000/- collected by them.

DPA Proposes to make Pharm.Ds Eligible for ICMR’s Short Term Studentship Program

The Indian Council of Medical Research initiated the Short Term Studentship Program in1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. The main objective of this program is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate medical students to familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects. This may serve as an incentive for them to take up research as a career in the future. The Guide/ Institution must provide the student with all facilities (kits, reagents &other requirements) for carrying out research.

The value of the studentship will be Rs. 5,000/- per month for 2 months’ duration (Rs. 10,000/- only) and is meant to be a stipend for the student. This is paid only after completion of research and approved of final report. Costs of research must be borne by Institution/ Medical College where research is conducted. A certificate will be issued and posted to Principal’s office after 6-8 months of completion of research.

The eligibility criteria for ICMR studentship is only MBBS/BDS.But due to Eligibility problem Pharm.Ds are currently not able to apply for ICMR’s Studentship.

So DPA  (Doctor of Pharmacy Association) has asked PCI to send a proposal to ICMR on behalf of Pharm.D Students to incorporate Pharm.D in the elgibility Criteria of STS (Short Term Studentship Program).PCI has responded positively and said that they would send a written proposal to ICMR to make Pharm.Ds eligible for ICMR’s Short Term Studentship Program.
